Dinning Room Chandelier Size Considerations
We are often asked “How do I know if what size chandelier I should buy for my dining room?”. This is a loaded question that requires many more questions before the right answer can be reached. While there are rules of thumb to help, they are more like guidelines than rules. Probably the most critical is the size of the table. The rule says the chandelier should be at least half the width of the table. This means if your table is fifty four inches wide the chandelier should be at least twenty seven inches in diameter. While this is a good starting point many times a larger fixture is appropriate.
Generally it is best to stay within twelve inches of the width of the table to insure a minimum distance of six inches from the edge of the table to the chandelier. This should keep your guests from hitting their heads on your new fixture. Other considerations should be ceiling height and overall space dimensions. This is when a knowledgeable lighting associate will make all the difference.
